Grimmory: organise your ebooks and comics in one library, with covers, metadata and reading progress synced across your devices. On blitz.cloud you install it from the App Store in one click. It gets its own address with HTTPS, 10 GB of storage and the MariaDB it needs, and it runs on servers in the EU. Grimmory needs more memory than the free plan has, so it runs on Pro (7 EUR a month, 14-day trial without a card).

## A self-hosted alternative to Calibre-Web and Komga

Grimmory does the job of Calibre-Web or Komga, but it is your own copy: your data sits in your app, not in somebody else's account, and nobody changes the price or the rules on you. Self-hosting usually means renting a server and keeping it patched. Here the App Store sets it up and keeps it running.

## What it needs

| Need | Grimmory |
|---|---|
| Memory | 768 MB reserved from your plan |
| Storage | 10 GB |
| Database | MariaDB, created and connected for you |
| Plan | Pro |

## Install it

1. [Start the install of Grimmory](https://blitz.cloud/get/grimmory/). Without an account you create one with Google, GitHub or your email.
2. Pick your address, like `yourname.blitz.cloud`. The app's page in the App Store opens right after.
3. Click Install (on a free account, start the 14-day Pro trial there first). It lists what gets created, the database included, and is online about a minute later, at an address like `grimmory.yourname.blitz.cloud`.
4. Open the app's address and create the first account; it becomes the admin. Drop books into the bookdrop folder or upload them from the library view.

## Good to know

A fork of BookLore under its new name and licence; the project is young, so expect its upgrade path to keep changing.

## Deploy button for your README

Do you maintain Grimmory or write about it? Put this button in a README or a post. A click opens Grimmory in the blitz.cloud App Store, ready to install; someone without an account signs up for free first.

## Questions

### Where is my Grimmory data stored?

On blitz.cloud's servers in the EU, run by BlitzWorks, a company in Germany. Once signed in, you can download the [data processing agreement](https://dashboard.blitz.cloud/account/dpa?lang=en) as a PDF.

### Can Grimmory stay online around the clock?

Yes. It runs on Pro, and on Pro you can keep it awake, so it answers at any hour, also requests from other programs. Pro is 7 EUR a month for your whole account.

### Can I use my own domain for Grimmory?

Yes, on Pro, or on the free plan by making this one app a Pro app. HTTPS for the domain is set up for you.

### Is Grimmory backed up?

Its database is backed up every night: 7 nights are kept on the free plan, 30 on Pro. On Pro the app's files are copied every night too.

### Can I try Grimmory before paying?

Yes, with the 14-day Pro trial, which needs no card. Grimmory needs a larger size than the free plan has, so it doesn't run there. After the trial Pro costs 7 EUR a month.

### How does Grimmory get updates?

With automatic updates on, it gets new versions of its version line overnight. If a new version doesn't start, the one before it keeps running.
