Host a Discord bot that stays online

Run your Discord bot from GitHub on servers in the EU and keep it connected at any hour, with a new version on every push. Free to try, from 2 EUR a month to keep it running.

Updated

A Discord bot holds an open connection to Discord and reacts to what happens on your server. Nobody ever visits it, so it needs no web address, only a place where it keeps running. On blitz.cloud that place is in the EU, and it is filled straight from your GitHub repository.

Put it online

  1. Click "Host something new", then "My own code", and pick the bot's repository. Private repositories work.
  2. When you name the app, switch on "Runs in the background". The bot gets no address and no port, we don't wait for it to answer on one, and it never goes to sleep.
  3. Put the bot token from the Discord developer portal on the app's Environment tab, for example as DISCORD_TOKEN. Settings are encrypted before they are stored.
  4. Build it. It counts as running once it has stayed up for 20 seconds, and the Logs tab shows what it prints.

discord.py, discord.js, JDA and the rest all work the same way. Without a Dockerfile we write one from requirements.txt or package.json. Every push to the branch builds a new version; the running bot stays up until the new one starts.

Keeping it running

On the free plan one background app runs at a time, and it stops after 2 days in which nobody signs in, deploys or opens the dashboard. We email you a day before, and Start runs it again.

For a bot that just stays on:

  • Pro app, 2 EUR a month or 15 EUR a year: this one bot keeps running and is never stopped for a quiet account.
  • Pro, 7 EUR a month or 70 EUR a year: as many background bots as you like, up to 50 apps, more databases and nightly copies of your apps' files. It starts with a 14-day trial.

A database and a dashboard

A bot that remembers levels, roles or settings needs a database. Create a PostgreSQL or Redis database on the Databases page and connect it; the address arrives as an environment variable, and it is backed up every night. If the repository also has a web dashboard, both go online as one app of several parts. The bot keeps running while the dashboard sleeps, and with Pro the dashboard can stay awake too, on a domain you own. See several services in one repository.

Questions

What does it cost?

Trying it is free and needs no card. Keeping a bot running for good is 2 EUR a month as a Pro app, or 7 EUR a month on Pro for all your apps. The first month of Pro is refunded if you ask within 30 days.

My bot keeps restarting. Where do I look?

On the app's page. If it crashes again and again, the page shows the last lines it printed, and the Logs tab has the rest. A missing token is the usual cause.

Where does it run?

On blitz.cloud's servers in the EU, run by BlitzWorks, a company in Germany.

Keep your app online, in the EU.

Put it online from GitHub or the App Store in a few minutes. Pro keeps your apps awake around the clock, on your own domains, for 7 EUR a month for all of them, and you can try it for 14 days first.
