Nextcloud GmbH's own plans start at 100 users and are priced per user per year, so they don't fit one person. Self-hosting Nextcloud yourself is free software, but it needs a database and a server you maintain. On blitz.cloud you can run Nextcloud free, with blitz.cloud setting up its database for you, or keep it always on with Pro.

Checked on nextcloud.com/pricing, 2026-10-17: Nextcloud GmbH sells Standard, Premium and Ultimate plans starting at 71.29 EUR per user per year, with a minimum of 100 users, aimed at organisations rather than individuals. For fewer than 100 users, Nextcloud GmbH points to Nextcloud One, a separate managed offering with no published price.
Self-hosting Nextcloud yourself
Nextcloud is free, open-source software (AGPL-3.0). Running your own copy costs no licence fee, but it needs a server, a database (Nextcloud recommends MariaDB or PostgreSQL over SQLite for more than a handful of files), HTTPS you set up yourself, and your own backups and updates.
Nextcloud on blitz.cloud
You can run Nextcloud on blitz.cloud free of charge. The App Store installs it with its own HTTPS address and sets up a MariaDB database for you automatically, which saves the step of installing and configuring one yourself. On the free plan it sleeps after 30 minutes without a visit, and shares your plan's 512 MB memory and 10 GB storage with your other apps; Nextcloud itself uses 5 GB of storage.
On Pro, 7 EUR a month, you can keep it awake so it answers the moment you or your phone's auto-upload opens it.
Our own numbers, measured 2026-10-17: Nextcloud installs and comes online in about 263 seconds (4 to 5 minutes) at the median, 131 seconds at the fastest, including setting up its database. It runs in the small resource size, 128 MB of memory reserved with room to grow to 512 MB.
Is it free / does it run 24/7 / do I need a card
Is Nextcloud free? The software is free either way. Nextcloud GmbH's own plans are enterprise pricing from 100 users up. Running it yourself on blitz.cloud's free plan costs nothing, with the limits above.
Does it run 24/7? Self-hosting it yourself does, if your server stays up. On blitz.cloud's free plan it sleeps when nobody visits; on Pro it stays awake.
Do I need a card? blitz.cloud's free plan does not.
