Ghost(Pro), the official hosted version, starts at 18 USD a month, billed yearly. Self-hosting Ghost yourself is free software, but it costs a server and your own backups. On blitz.cloud you can run Ghost free, with the usual free-plan limits, or connect your own domain and keep it always on with Pro.

Self-hosting Ghost yourself
Ghost is free, open-source software (MIT licence). Running it yourself costs no licence fee, but it's a server you pick and pay for, Docker or Node.js to install, HTTPS to set up, and backups and updates to keep current.
Ghost on blitz.cloud
You can run Ghost on blitz.cloud free of charge. The App Store installs it with its own HTTPS address and a SQLite database already set up, so there's no separate database to manage. On the free plan it sleeps after 30 minutes without a visit, and shares your plan's 512 MB memory and 10 GB storage with your other apps; Ghost itself uses 2 GB of storage.
On Pro, 7 EUR a month, you can connect your own domain and keep Ghost awake, so a reader who opens a link right after you publish never waits (see self-host Ghost).
Our own numbers, measured 2026-10-17: Ghost installs and comes online in about 94 seconds at the median, 34 seconds at the fastest. It runs in the small resource size, 128 MB of memory reserved with room to grow to 512 MB.
Is it free / does it run 24/7 / do I need a card
Is Ghost free? The software is free either way. Ghost(Pro)'s cheapest plan is 18 USD a month. Running it yourself on blitz.cloud's free plan costs nothing, with the limits above.
Does it run 24/7? Ghost(Pro) does. Self-hosting it yourself does, if your server stays up. On blitz.cloud's free plan it sleeps when nobody visits; on Pro it stays awake.
Do I need a card? Ghost(Pro)'s trial needs one eventually. blitz.cloud's free plan does not.
